Metal coloured greenish-blue

Some ancient shrines, temples and buildings have roofs and pillars made of copper. It can be assumed that these were a beautiful copper-coloured colour when they were first built, but over time they have developed a greenish-blue appearance that gives them a more distinctive and attractive appearance. This is a major attraction of copper’s ageing process. Green patina is a rust that occurs on copper components. It is basically harmless. In the past, green rust was considered to be toxic, but it has now been shown to be harmless in terms of composition. At the same time, it has also been shown that green blue forms a film that protects metals from corrosion.

It’s all about dreams

The project involved the production of a huge partition at the entrance. The art wall is made of tin coated with Verometal® Copper and decorated with a green-blue effect. The same finished material is used for the intercom controls, giving the building a light impression. The presence of the metal is maintained, while the beautiful greenish-blue colour can be enjoyed dynamically. In addition, the handrail in front of the intercom has been coated with Verometal® Copper on the inside only, giving it a greenish-blue colour. This allows the copper to slowly develop a deep, candy-coloured appearance. The use of Verometal® allows for consistent quality even over large areas. Of course, achieving a uniform finish and careful decorative treatment over large areas requires skill. Even the slightest irregularity in application will not result in a uniform greenish-blue colour. The larger the area, the more skill is required to apply the VeroMetall® coating and decoration, or to put it another way, if you want to create a “deliberate irregularity”, you need to have total control over the entire surface.

Essence

The presence of green and blue is outstanding, but it therefore requires in-depth knowledge of interior design. For example, in our project, the logo is placed in the centre of the art wall. Naturally, visibility of the logo is important. It is also important that the whole area serves as a complement to the logo. Therefore, a metalised logo is installed while slightly reducing the occurrence of green-blue around the logo. By setting up the lighting, etc., the design of the space as a whole, the visibility of the logo and its role as a signboard with the presence of greenish-blue will stand out. These techniques are the work of the design side. As a component supplier, it is important for us to understand their intentions and translate them into the finishing touches. Greenish-blue is beautiful and has a lot of character. That is why it is always a thought-provoking presence that makes us think about how to handle it.
