Wall surface in office
An IT company located in a newly renovated landmark building in Shibuya, Tokyo. AICHI METAL's wall components were used in this office space in 2020. This is AICHI METAL's technology that coats the surface of an aluminum composite plate with VeroMetal to create various textures. Originally, a representative of a major general contractor who was in charge of the design of this office tried using a DIY kit version of our VeroMetal on his own cell phone cover. This was interesting, and AICHI METAL was asked to manufacture components for the wall surface. However, it was not an easy project.
Unevenness and crispness.
What was required was a very textured, rather lush metallic texture. At first, we tried applying the paint after creating an uneven surface with a primer, but the texture did not become as strong and crisp as we had hoped. So, I created the texture by pounding clay-like VeroMetal onto the painted and polished surface by hand to create a heaping effect, and then polishing it. The painting process was performed by VeroMetal partner Shimizu Coating Industry Co. This company is actually the best in the paint field in Japan, and is also the construction company relied upon by the major general contractor who was also the construction company at this time. AICHI METAL has more than 100 partners throughout Japan through the VeroMetal training program, and we are planning to start working with these companies in 2021 to strengthen our construction support.
A vast array of samples
In this case, there were many areas that were unknown to us, and the in-house system that allowed us to make samples as our own investment was significant. As a result, not only did we make a lot of samples to discuss our images, but the people who placed the order also stayed at our company and repeated the prototyping many times, which deepened their understanding of VeroMetal and facilitated smooth communication. In the end, we were able to decorate the walls of the office, the president's office, and the conference room with metal coating and decorations to add color to the company's new history. This project was the result of the ideas of many different people with a great deal of cooperation.
